Overview

The Chicago to Dubuque project aims to restore Intercity Passenger Rail (IPR) service from Chicago to Rockford, by utilizing Metra & Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Improvements include: upgrading tracks, capacity improvements, a layover facility, a UP/Metra connection, bridge improvements, and new stations. IPR service will be provided by Amtrak with an anticipated two daily round trips. This project received $223 Million from the Illinois Jobs Now! Capital Program.
